Stainless Steel Handle Maintenance Misconceptions: Stop Using Steel Wool! Proper Maintenance Can Extend Your Life by 5 Years

Stainless steel handles in your home will inevitably develop stains and water spots over time. Many people simply pick up steel wool to clean them, unknowingly accelerating their aging. Stainless steel has a chromium oxide film on its surface, which is its core "protective layer" that resists rust. The sharp wires of steel wool can directly scratch this film, exposing the metal to air and moisture. Rust spots will soon appear, and the once shiny surface will become pitted and rough.

In addition to steel wool, these maintenance mistakes should also be avoided: First, using strong acid or alkaline cleaners (such as toilet cleaners and strong degreasers) will corrode the oxide film, causing handles to lose their luster. Second, leaving stains untouched for a long time, especially grease on kitchen handles and water stains in the bathroom, can penetrate the surface over time, leaving stubborn marks that are difficult to remove.

Mastering proper maintenance methods will keep stainless steel handles looking like new for years to come:

1. Daily cleaning: Use the right tools: Use a soft cloth (such as a microfiber or cotton cloth) with a neutral detergent (such as diluted dish soap) and gently wipe to remove everyday stains while avoiding scratches.

2. Promptly dry and prevent water accumulation: After cleaning or washing your hands, wipe the handle surface with a dry cloth, especially in the crevices, to prevent residual water marks and rust.

3. Regularly polish and renew: Once a month, wipe the handle surface with a damp cloth, then gently rub it with a dry cloth dipped in a small amount of cooking oil. This will not only remove minor signs of oxidation but also form a protective film to keep the handle shiny.
